Welcome to Earthside Doula VT! My name is Madison Whiting and I am a practicing labor and postpartum Doula in Vermont. I have four children of my own, and have a passion for educating, supporting, and empowering women through their childbirth process. I am currently undergoing training through an organization called Birth Arts International to receive my certification, which is not a required credential, but one I feel is important to have. I am also attending in-person training's and workshops whenever I can to increase my knowledge and network of the birth community. I hope to also earn my CPST (certified passenger safety technician) certification by 2019, which will allow me to educate and assist parents in car seat safety.
My philosophy surrounding birth is very simple; our bodies are strategically designed to carry and birth children, and with education and empowerment, every woman can have a birth experience that she feels good about. I strive to empower women to become educated and make their own choices surrounding their pregnancy, their baby, and their birth. I am very much a hands-off doula, and hope to support you in whatever way possible, to ensure an amazing experience for all involved. I will work side by side with your birth team, including your OB or midwife and your family member/partner. I love meeting the rest of the birth team and will encourage an open, friendly relationship with all involved.
If you have never worked with a doula before you may be unsure of what my role is. As a doula, I provide no medical advice or medical care to you. Your OB/Midwife will be responsible for all medical decisions regarding you and your baby. I provide education, suggestions, and guidance around the choices you can make for yourself and your baby. I also offer emotional and physical support during labor and birth, which can take many forms depending on what is best for you and your family.
