Q: What is a labor doula? A: A labor doula is a non medical support person that provides education and support to a woman and her partner before, during, and after birth. Labor doulas do not require certification to practice, however it is a great credential to have.
Q: Why should I get a doula? A: A doula can benefit you in many ways, mainly by supporting and educating you around your birth experience so that you feel empowered to make your own decisions regarding your own body and your baby.
Q: How much does it cost? A: Under my Services page you will find a complete list of rates for my services. These costs are calculated by the time taken to complete the services and the level of skill and experience required.
Q: Is a doula similar to a midwife or doctor? A: The short answer is, No. A doula does NOT perform any medical procedures or make medical decisions. A doula is a NON MEDICAL support person, and all medical decisions are made by your midwife or obstetrician. A doula is only similar to a midwife or doctor in that we are a member of your birth team, working together during your pregnancy and birth.
Q: What kind of births will you attend? A: I will attend ANY birth, from hospital to home births, high risk or low risk, I am open to each and every circumstance.
Q: Why do you charge what you charge? A: I charge a rate that is within alignment with state standards for Doula services ($600-$1000). This rate is based on the time I will spend with you before and at your birth, the cost of travel (gas and wear on my vehicle), supplies in my Doula bag, literature that I will provide to you, and the cost of the training I have received to become a Doula. I will go above and beyond to ensure that you are happy with my services.
